Many are asking…
Many kids are asking, “When do we get to come back to Kid’s Bible Club?” And the answer is… hopefully next fall (2021). We know that is not the answer that many were hoping for but we are trying to be as mindful of safety as possible, and feel it is just not in the best interest of our kids to push our program gatherings until we are sure we can do so safely. With this being said, here is what we CAN DO in Children’s Ministry for our kids:
Wednesdays at 4pm, you can catch Miss Megan on our St. John’s Facebook page reading a children’s book live and relating it to a Bible story or teaching. We do this live so that interaction is encouraged.
Sundays we are still doing Sunday School in the chapel at 10am-10:45am to allow for a bigger space to practice social distancing (during this time there is also Adult Sunday School in the Parlor and Youth Sunday School in “The Wheel”). Sunday School packets have continued to go out so that our kids who are not ready to come back for Sunday School can still be “with us.”
Every month Miss Megan delivers care packages to our Kid’s Bible Club and Youth Group families that include many goodies and lots of love, complete with a driveway visit. Please let Miss Megan know if you are interested in receiving a care package and I will be happy to deliver.
And last but certainly not least, our Children and Youth Ministries Team is working hard to continue with creative ways of connecting with our families. Stay tuned for some fun surprises coming for Lent and summer plans!
Nursery - The nursery will be closed until further notice. It is not safe for kids 2 and under to wear a mask and they do not understand social/physical distancing. With that being said, if you do see a child in the nursery, it might be the child of an essential worker needed to provide worship (such as a worship leader or church staff). They have been (or will be) notified of the necessary precautions and procedures expected to keep everyone safe.
KIDS (3yrs old-4th grade) - We will be staying virtual with this age group for our Wednesday “Kid’s Bible Club” and Sunday School Packets; however, Sunday morning worship is open in-person to join as a family and as you feel comfortable, as long as it is safe for you and your family to follow the guidelines listed on the church opening policies page. I will be giving a Children’s Message in Worship; however, please stay seated with your family and I will talk to you from the front. Catch me for virtual story time on Facebook live at 4:30pm on Wednesdays!
The Edge Youth Group (5th-12th Grade) - I feel passionate about providing a safe place mentally, spiritually, physically, and emotionally so we are gathering in person to catch up and share life together while staying 6ft apart. We gather Wednesdays from 5:30pm-6:00pm for supper, then 6-7:00 for Youth Group. Stay tuned for announcements through our Facebook page, Snapchat, and Instagram.
SKATECHURCH - SkateChurch is open every Wednesday 5pm-9pm, Friday 6pm-10pm, and Saturday 5pm-9pm. Students are welcome to come hang out even if you do not have wheels to ride. We have some board games, pool, concessions, and some really great people to spend time with ;). Wednesdays it’s $2 entrance fee and weekends it’s $4. PLEASE NOTE we do require a waiver to be signed by your adult guardian in person. Also note that with our new insurance, bikes are not allowed (for the time being).
We are excited to be slowly but surely opening back up and continue to pray that everyone stays safe. Please contact me at megank@stjohnsumcdav.org if you have any questions. Looking forward to seeing you all again soon. Stay strong and be well!
Many Blessings,
Megan Keller
